This must be the most awesomest April Fools Prank ever. Sorry, Tom, this trumps ChinaGrounds.

I wish I had more to put here. Um... something coming sometime. Maybe June, Maybe October.

Good News Everyone!

No wait....Tedious News...

This is an official notice that I am pushing Perpetual Workday 2 back to the Fall.

Two Reasons Mostly:

1) I put it off working it in February, which was the best possible month to produce flash. Now it's Spring and I have more important, financially gratifying, projects to work on. Which brings me to...

2) Me and my production partner, Luke, have an opportunity to produce a graphic novel treatment, which will be presented for purchase in October. What free time we have left we need to devote to this project.

Not to worry, PW2 will be released eventually, and not to the same treatment as F.U.3, which was disastrous from the beginning.

Besides, PW2 is the best script I've written thus far, I can't afford to not put it out eventually.

Cheer up! Here is a picture I did for a newspaper ad this week. It'll drown all your sorrows.

Perpetual Workday 2 Delayed

Posted by rockymike - March 17th, 2009

A month and three days ago I posted that I worked on the first scenes to Perpetual Workday: 2sday. Well I'm here to report that I still just have those first scenes done.

I'm getting started up on it again now. I'm going to try to stick to a schedule and have it done by mid-April. I'd like to have it out at least before the melee of Pico Day begins.

That being said, I think this will be the last one I put out this year. I've got some big things I'm trying to accomplish in my personal life and they take some priority over this.

It seems, too, that when I have a successful series I tend to overthrown the possibilities and end up collapsing on my face. I probably never should have wrote these two episodes simultaneously, but I was on a roll and I was excited at this new opportunity.

I have written half of a third episode, but it got way too long with introducing new characters and retaining characters you've already met. I think I need to take a step back and figure out what is important. Maybe turn the keys to that episode over to someone else. I don't know. In any case, I can only promise you the next one.

Also, this amused the living piss out of me.

MoreLikeBlue vs Perpetual Workday

It's a no contest that MoreLikeBlue is better. I just want to clear the air in a single post to my critics who made reference to Perpetual Workday being a rip off.

I make no reservations that PW was inspired by MLB. Most blatantly in terms of style. It's a style I admire and have been shocked that it isn't emulated more. That's why PW stands out in comparison.
The F.U. series was inspired design-wise by Bonus Stage. No one ever picked up on that because everyone was using that style at the time. It was a simple design that was also beautiful. Just like MLB.

Secondly, critics have compared both in terms of being in an office setting. This is more coincidental. The series that I have done have a natural progression that reflect where I am in my life. I started Pendleton County High after high school and I started F.U. after college - both reflect these periods in my life. Now, PW reflects my work life.

Additionally, I've read comments that the humor was similar. Really it is not - that's just my humor. If you go back to my submissions from years ago you will see essentially the same comedy structure.

Lastly, the opening scenes are similar. Well...ok that is a blatant rip off. Actually more of an homage to MLB's opening scene. I just love the idea of opening credits on a space backdrop.

I did my first official production work on Perpetual Workday: Tuesday - or 2sday as it is now called. More on that in coming weeks.

MoreLikeBlue vs Perpetual Workday

Perpetual Workday did well. I am ecstatic, as are those who helped with the series.

I follow my own stats closely. This is the highest scoring entry I've had right out out of the portal. It already is the second most favorited submission, second only to the original F.U. It is also my highest viewed entry in almost two years. Needless to say, I've deemed it a success.

That being said, the script to the sequel has already been written, in fact, it was written the day after the original script was written. I find it to be 10 times funnier than the first, but it does pose some challenges.

First of all, there is no Viking Bob. This was due to the fact that Viking Bob was meant to be a one time character. The reason being that I wrote the part with the intention of Egoraptor doing to part. He declined (I assumed he did every voice, ever) citing that he was busy and obviously protecting his own street cred. My producer, Luke Hersey, got a co worker of his to fill in for the part and far exceeded my expectations.

So obviously there needs to be Viking Bob. He's what made the first one great and I feel fans of the first would be disappointed if he were not in this one. I will ultimately find a way to work him back in.

Second, no Snowfender. She did an amazing job as the part of Jennifer Sing. I had originally written the part for my wife, Traci, but eventually had her to the part of the annoying caller instead. She's not in the next part either, and I feel she needs to, and deserves to be. So I will work her in as well.

Moose, who plays Barry, does return in the second part, but has just as small a role as the first. I may not flesh him out in this one, but I'll likely give him a bigger role when I write part three (as I intend to).

I'm going to begin production next week on what a call tentatively Perpetual Workday: Tuesday.

I expect to have it out in April.

Because you should be.

This is my 30th Flash submission to Newgrounds (Actually it's a little more then that, because I pulled a few from years back that I was embarrassed of). It's the start of a new series - one that is a story told in layers.

To me, every release I've had since July of 2007 has been a failure (ironically since just after the launch of the redesign), this includes F.U.3, which I spent almost two years developing. I'm hoping this will be a reversal of fortune for me. I love Flash and I love Newgrounds; however, real life issues have consumed most of my soul that involves these projects. This, to me, is a return to arms.

Give it a watch and see what you think. It is also my first go with the Ad system, so watch repetitively as well.

Thanks everyone!

This will be my last post before the release of Perpetual Workday!

I'm shooting for a January 26 release. This is a realistic date since I will only have two more scenes to go after this weekend; however, things have gone awry in the past.

I don't have the support that I once had in the past from fans. It's always hard starting a new series. I working blind here. That's why I miss Alphas (see previous post).

Perpetual Workday follows the exploits of three delinquent employees who were hired for just that reason. Their company, CannonFodder, Inc (or CFI) is a non profit charity organization, which is secretly a cover for their weapons manufacturing for unstable countries.

In addition to the three main character, Johnny, Tyler and Dee. It also has a great supporting cast.

To start, I am producing two episodes. The second of which will be released some time near April.
(Stick around for that episode, because it is the funniest thing I've written to date).

That's all. I'll make a post when it's released.

Below, Graphic Dept. Manager Barry (left) and Johnny (right) compare penis sizes. Barry is clearly winning.

January 26!

They were a great way to shamelessly promote your work without seeming completely self-absorbed.

Perpetual Workday is coming along nicely. For as simple as I thought the animation would be, it is actually taking quite a while to put together. I was hoping for an early January release date (as in two days ago). Now I'm thinking it may carry over into February.

For now, my tentative release date is January 30. So far, that is realistic; however, I still have a few more complex scenes to go.

Also, I asked the NG voice actor community for help on this one. I would like to thank Snowfender and Moose for lending their voices. They both did an excellent job. I highly recommend them for any voice work you may have.

Below is a completed scene.

I miss Alphas

Happy New Year!

Everybody puts out end of the year lists and so do I. First up is music.

This is the 15th year I have held this list; however this was almost the first year I didn't have a choice.
Until today, I had yet to own an album from 2008 (I blame iTunes mostly, and the fact that most albums blew this year). I had a candidate in mind but I needed to listen to the whole album to confirm it was worthy - and it is. So now my list is complete.

Best Album of 2008 - MGMT - Oracular-Spectacular
To recap for the hell of it:
2007 - Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank
2006 - The Killers - Sam's Town
2005 - INTERPOL - Antics
2004 - Brand New - Deja Entendu
2003 - Alien Ant Farm - TruANT
2002 - Incubus - Morning View
2001 - Toadies - Hell Below, Stars Above
2000 - Barenaked Ladies - Maroon
1999 - Barenaked Ladies - Stunt
1998 - Eve 6 - Self Titled
1997 - Everclear - So Much For The Afterglow
1996 - Beck - Odelay
1995 - The Presidents Of The United States of America - Self Titled
1994 - Green Day - Dookie
1993 - Pearl Jam - Vs

My Movie of the Year is Wall-e, narrowly beating out The Dark Knight and Prince Caspian.

I was wondering something. How many elected government officials do you think are also Newgrounds users? I know there's at least one.

So, as for Ok5. It's true. The website too. D had been paying for the site out of pocket for the last two years and was rightfully perturbed that we weren't doing more with it. So it's down. My Ok5 Studios freelance design business is also defunct - mostly due to the fact that it's a bitch to report quarterly sales and I'm probably doing it wrong anyways. I'm also worried I may run into the problems that Tom did. So it's just easier to be Freelance and report once a year.

When Perpetual Workday is released in January or February it will have no name branded to it. Just me and Luke as the creators.

I feel now that F.U. is extinct as well that we are starting entirely from scratch. It's invigorating, but also terrifying - since all the street cred we built up has gone down the drain with everything else.

Discuss.

Ok5 Studios is Dead
